NEOT KEDUMIM DIRECTOR’S REPORT
Dear Friends,
Israel is celebrating 59 years of independence. Let us hope to fulfill the promise in the verse
"oא Tשא '.T אo '.T -ר'"
(Nation shall not lift up sword against nation”)
and that
"ע.ש" שo.ם 'zר.zT. ".א Tעש" שo.ם עoTנ."
(“May the One who makes peace in His heights make peace upon us and upon all Israel”).
Amen.
Neot Kedumim was founded almost 40 years ago and has not yet reached financial independence. As you are well aware our educational activity, the basis for the understanding of the existence of the Jewish people, is not a lucrative business. We need your brave partnership.
The Jewish year is nearing its end. Next year will be a shmitta (sabbatical) year, one in which we will carry out few agriculture related projects, such as sowing, planting, etc. Because of this, during the present year we are increasing planting projects and areas of the Reserve. We are creating new programs to accommodate the growth in numbers of visitors. Additionally, we must maintain our grounds work so that what we have planted will be sustained in the coming years. These activities involve large financial expenses.
As it is written:
">T ת'.א. אo "ארץ אשר אנT נ.תY o>ם .ש'ת" "ארץ ש'ת o"', שש שנTם ת-רע ש"s .שש שנTם ת-z.ר >רzs .אספת >o ת'.את". .'שנ" "ש'TעTת ש'ת ש'ת.Y... oא ת-רע... oא ת-z.ר... ."Tת" ש'ת "ארץ o>ם oא>o" os .oע'"s... .o'"zתs .o-T" אשר 'ארצs ת"T" >o ת'.את" oא>.o…"
(.Tקרא ''--')
“When ye come into the land which I give you, then shall the land keep a sabbath unto the LORD. Six years thou shalt sow thy field, and six years thou shalt prune thy vineyard, and gather in the produce thereof. (Leviticus 25:2-6)
In his emotional speech, on his death bed, (Deuteronomy 15) the aging Moses asks regarding the shmitta:
"נת.Y תתY o. .oא .רע o''s 'תתs o. >T ''oo ""'ר "-" T'ר>s "' אo."Ts '>o zעשTs .'>o zשo- T"s"
Thou shalt surely give him, and thy heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him; because that for this thing the LORD thy God will bless thee in all thy work, and in all that thou puttest thy hand unto.”
The commandment (mitzvah) of the shmitta is only customary in the land of Israel. It is not mandated for those living outside of the Land. Your assistance, dear friends, in preparing Neot Kedumim for the shmitta year, will provide you the opportunity to share in this significant mitzvah, from any place around the globe.
With gratitude,
Shlomo Teitelbaum
